eFoil weight limit: rider on a high-volume Waydoo Flyer EVO eFoil board

eFoil Weight Limit: Which eFoil for Heavier Riders

Most eFoils carry riders up to somewhere between 90 and 130 kg, and the eFoil weight limit varies more between models than most buyers expect. In the Waydoo range, the Flyer EVO Lite is rated for riders up to 198 lbs (around 90 kg), while the Flyer EVO Max Plus and Pro Plus carry up to 286 lbs (around 130 kg). If you sit anywhere near the top of a board's rating, the model you choose decides how easily you get flying and how long each session lasts. Here is what the numbers mean and how to choose.

eFoil weight limits by model

The table below shows the maximum rider weight for each Flyer EVO, alongside the two other numbers that matter most for heavier riders: board volume and motor power.

Model Max rider weight Board volume Motor Price incl. VAT
Flyer EVO Lite 198 lbs (approx. 90 kg) 90L 4000W 5,807 euro
Flyer EVO Max Plus 286 lbs (approx. 130 kg) 130L 6000W 6,999 euro
Flyer EVO Pro Plus 286 lbs (approx. 130 kg) 90L 6000W 7,033 euro
Flyer EVO Master 220 lbs (approx. 100 kg) 75L 6000W 9,546 euro

Two things stand out. The entry-level Lite has the lowest rating, so riders above 90 kg should look further up the range. And the carbon Master, despite its 6000W motor, is rated to 220 lbs because of its compact 75L board, which is built for experienced riders who want agility rather than maximum float.

Why board volume matters as much as the limit

Volume decides how the board behaves before you are flying. A 130L board like the Max Plus floats a heavier rider high in the water, which makes the kneeling start, the transition to standing and every touchdown calmer and more forgiving. On a low-volume board, a heavier rider sits deeper, the platform is less stable at rest, and the first metres of each run take more effort.

That is why the Max Plus and Pro Plus share the same 286 lbs rating but feel different in use. The Max Plus, with 40 litres more volume, is the more comfortable platform if you are near the top of the rating or still learning. The Pro Plus suits riders who already fly and want a sportier board underfoot. Our best beginner eFoil guide covers why volume is the beginner's best friend at any weight.

Power: why heavier riders should look for 6000W

Getting onto the foil takes a burst of thrust, and the heavier the rider, the more thrust the takeoff needs. The 6000W motor on the Max Plus, Pro Plus and Master delivers that headroom, which means clean, repeatable takeoffs instead of long, draggy starts at full throttle. The 4000W Lite is well matched to riders under its 198 lbs rating, but close to any board's limit, extra motor headroom is what keeps the ride relaxed.

Once flying, weight matters much less. The foil carries you, drag is low, and a heavier rider at cruising speed draws only somewhat more power than a lighter one. The difference is felt at takeoff and in total ride time, not in the flying itself.

Battery, ride time and rider weight

A heavier rider draws more energy per takeoff and slightly more in flight, so real-world ride time sits below the headline figure. The Max Plus and Pro Plus both quote up to 120 minutes per charge, and the Pro Plus carries a 2300Wh battery to support it. Two habits protect your session length: cruise at a moderate speed rather than full throttle, and keep takeoffs efficient by learning them on calm water. Because the Flyer EVO is modular, you can also add a second battery and swap between sessions rather than buying a second board.

Which Flyer EVO fits your weight

As a simple rule of thumb from the ratings above:

  • Up to around 90 kg: the whole range is open, including the Flyer EVO Lite from 5,807 euro.
  • 90 to 100 kg: choose a 6000W model. The Max Plus for comfort, the Pro Plus for a sportier ride, or the Master if you are experienced and want the compact carbon build.
  • 100 to 130 kg: the Max Plus and Pro Plus, both rated to 286 lbs. If you are learning, the 130L Max Plus with Flight Assist is the natural pick.

If you are unsure between two models, weight is a better tiebreaker than budget: the board with more float and more motor headroom will always be the easier board to progress on. It is also worth confirming the maths of ownership first in our guides to what an eFoil costs in Europe and eFoil rental vs buying.

The ratings tell you what a board can carry. A session tells you how it feels. If you are near the top of a rating, try the exact model before you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weight limit for an eFoil?

It varies by model. In the Waydoo range, the Flyer EVO Lite carries riders up to 198 lbs (around 90 kg), the Master up to 220 lbs, and the Max Plus and Pro Plus up to 286 lbs (around 130 kg).

Which eFoil should a heavier rider choose?

Look for a 6000W motor and a high-volume board. In the Waydoo range, the Flyer EVO Max Plus pairs a 130L board with a 286 lbs rider rating, which makes it the most forgiving option for riders around or above 100 kg.

Does rider weight affect eFoil battery life?

Yes. A heavier rider draws more power at takeoff and slightly more in flight, which shortens ride time. Cruising at moderate speed and keeping takeoffs efficient recovers much of the difference.
